The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) has released its softball weekly awards for the week of April 7-13.
Kaitlyn Geschwill, a right-handed pitcher for Central Lakes College, earned this week's MCAC North Division Softball Pitcher of the Week award after going 2-1 in her three starts. Giving up only four earned runs over 18.1 innings, Geschwill struck out 26 batters while scattering 14 hits and walking four. From the plate, she hit .500 with a double and five RBI.
Anitza Gutierrez, shortstop for Minnesota North College - Rainy River, earned this week's MCAC North Division Softball Position Player of the Week award. Gutierrez hit .692, going 9 for 13 from the plate. She had a double and two inside-the-park home runs. Gutierrez drove in nine runs, scored nine runs, walked four times, and stole 10 bases.
Emma Shelton, a right-handed pitcher for St. Cloud Technical and Community College, earned this week's MCAC South Division Pitcher of the Week award. Shelton went 2-0 in her two starts and 10 innings of work. She gave up six earned runs on 10 hits, while striking out 14 and walking four. Shelton also hit .500 at the plate.
Alayna Leighton, shortstop for Rochester Community and Technical College, earned this week's MCAC South Division Softball Position Player of the Week award. Leighton picked up six hits in her 12 at-bats, hitting .500. She drove in seven RBI, scored six runs, walked five times, and stole eight bases. In the field, Leighton had three putouts and eight assists.
