The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) has released its football athlete of the week awards for the week of August 25-31.
Ethan Pridgen, wide receiver for Minnesota West Community and Technical College, earned an Offensive Player of the Week award, catching four passes for 80 yards and scoring a touchdown in the Bluejays' first game of the season. The sophomore from Landover, MD, scored Minnesota West's lone touchdown in a 37-7 loss to #1-ranked College of DuPage. Devin Gonzalez, quarterback for Rochester Community and Technical College earned the other Offensive Player of the Week honor. Gonzalez completed 14 of 21 passes for 181 yards and two touchdowns in the Yellowjackets' 30-27 overtime win against Nassau Community College.
Minnesota West Community and Technical College's outside linebacker, Darron Miller, earned a Defensive Player-of-the-Week award with his 11 tackles, one sack, and two tackles for loss in the Bluejays' loss to top-ranked College of DuPage. Trent Bronaugh, defensive back for Rochester Community and Technical College, was named a Defensive Player of the Week as well. Bronaugh had six tackles and an interception to help his Yellowjackets pick up the win over Nassau.
Chase Karpowich, kicker for Rochester Community and Technical College, earned the Special Teams Player-of-the-Week award for making his one field goal attempt (32 yards) to take the game against Nassau to overtime. Karpowich was three for three on extra points, and he had four kickoffs totaling 189 yards with two touchbacks.
