North Dakota State College of Science (NDSCS) has earned an opportunity to play for the 2025 NJCAA DIII Football National Championship following its MCAC/Region 13 Championship Game victory.
The MCAC/Region 13 Championship Game, held in Rochester, MN, on November 9, proved as competitive as the regular season. North Dakota State College of Science, as the tournament's #2 seed and #3 team in the nation, knocked off the #2 team in the nation and the MCAC Football Playoffs #1-seed Rochester Community and Technical College by a score of 37-29 to win the MCAC Playoff and Region 13 Championship.
A strong Wildcat rushing attack that netted 240 yards on the ground proved to be too much for the Yellowjackets. The NDSCS duo of Michael Douglas Jr. and Tellise Clark Jr. combined for 169 rushing yards on the cold and windy day. As seen by the close final score, the Yellowjackets kept pace with the Wildcats until the end, netting 343 total yards. Kyron Burroughs, running back for RCTC, accounted for more than half of the Yellowjackets' offense, tallying 134 rushing yards and 67 receiving yards on the day.
Trailing NDSCS by a 16-7 score at half, Rochester outscored the Wildcats 16-0 in the third quarter to take a 23-16 lead into the fourth. However, NDSCS put together an excellent game-winning run of their own, outscoring the Yellowjackets 21-6 in the final quarter to secure the 37-29 win.
With the win, the Wildcats have claimed one of the two coveted spots in the 2025 NJCAA DIII National Championship Football Game on December 6 at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, IL. The Wildcats are ranked #2 in the nation, and they will take on the #1-ranked College of DuPage Chaparrals at Noon.
North Dakota State College of Science last played in the NJCAA DIII Football National Championship Game in 2022. The Wildcats also faced off against the College of DuPage in that very tight, competitive game, eventually losing 14-12.
