Rochester, MN-
The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) Women's Basketball season is underway with 12 member colleges participating this year. Currently, the top three teams in the nation play in the MCAC and will be looking to claim one of the two automatic qualifying spots in the 2026 NJCAA DIII Women's Basketball National Tournament.
Anoka-Ramsey Community College, the 2024-2025 third-place finishers at the national tournament, is ranked #1 in the latest NJCAA DIII Women's Basketball poll. Northland Community and Technical College, the 2024-2025 fifth-place finisher, is ranked #2 in the nation, and Minnesota West Community and Technical College, the 4th place finisher in the 2024-2025 national tournament, is ranked #3.
MCAC Women's Basketball has only two coaches who have coached at their current college for ten years or more. Shannon Nelson is in her 15th season at Northland Community & Technical College and has taken her program to new heights. She has a 314-89 coaching record and has become an annual fixture at the national tournament. Rosalie Hayenga is in her 11th season at Minnesota West Community & Technical College. She has a 178-98 coaching record, and her teams finished as the national champions in 2024, runner-ups in 2023, and fourth in 2025.
No new coaches are taking to the sidelines in the MCAC this season.
Last season's NJCAA DIII Women's Basketball National Champion, Rochester Community and Technical College, along with Minnesota North College-Hibbing, were unable to field full teams, and each college suspended its 2025-26 season.
