The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) has released its winter sports athletes of the week awards for the week of December 29 - January 4.
Jade Reese, a guard for Northland Community and Technical College, earned the week's MCAC North Division Women's Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week award. Reese scored on five of her 14 shots from the field, going one for two from behind the three-point arc, and hitting six of her ten free throws. She scored 17 points in 36 minutes, and also had 14 rebounds, two assists, three steals, and a block in the Pioneers' win over Ridgewater College.
There were no nominations for the MCAC North Division Men's Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week award.
Minnesota State Community and Technical College forward Kaitlyn Olson earned the MCAC South Division Women's Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week award. In 80 minutes of court time, Olson scored 26 points, shooting 64.7% from the field (11-17). She rebounded 24 balls, and assisted on eight baskets, while also stealing the ball four times and blocking two shots. Averaging a double-double, Olson was instrumental in helping the Spartans pick up two wins.
Ridgewater College point guard Tyrese Mayo earned this week's MCAC South Division Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week award. Mayo scored on 14 of his 25 shots from the field, shooting 56%, and scoring 40 points in 57 minutes of action. He shot 55% from the three-point line and 86% from the free-throw line. Mayo rebounded 16 balls, had 12 assists, and stole three balls, helping his team secure two wins during the week. He had the first triple-double at Ridgewater College in the win over Central Lakes College.
There were no nominations this week for the MCAC Wrestler of the Week award.
