The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) has released its winter sports athletes of the week awards for the week of February 16-22.
Central Lakes College center Alyssa Wright earned the MCAC North Division Women's Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week award. In 66 minutes of action over two games, Wright scored 21 points, going 8 for 20 from the field and shooting 40%. She grabbed 26 rebounds, had six assists, three steals, and six blocked shots. Wright averaged a double-double in points and rebounds, and she helped the Raiders stay in the postseason tournament hunt.
Northland Community and Technical College power forward Alex Loomis earned the MCAC North Division Men's Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week award. Loomis played 90 minutes through three games and scored 60 points on 59% shooting from the field (27-46). He rebounded 24 balls, assisted on five baskets, and stole two balls, helping his Pioneers win two more North Division games and secure the #2 seed in the Region 13 Tournament.
Minnesota West Community and Technical College forward Katrina Schutz earned the MCAC South Division Women's Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week award. Schutz hit 9 of 14 shots from the field and shot 50% from behind the three-point arc to score 24 points in 29 minutes of court time. Schutz had a double-double for the second straight game after grabbing 12 rebounds to go along with her 24 points. She also had an assist, three steals, and six blocked shots to help the Lady Jays win the South Division title.
Ridgewater College point guard Tyrese Mayo earned this week's MCAC South Division Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week award. In 65 minutes on the court, Mayo went 22 for 39 from the field, shooting 56%, scoring 51 points. This week, he scored his 1000th point at Ridgewater. Mayo also had eight rebounds, ten assists, and three steals in wins over Minnesota West and #2 Riverland. The Warriors secured the second seed in the South Division for the Region 13 Tournament.
Cito Tuttle, the 285 lb. wrestler from Rochester Community and Technical College, earned this week's MCAC Wrestler of the Week award. In the North Plains District Tournament, the qualifying tournament for the NJCAA National Wrestling Championships, Tuttle earned a fall in his title match after going up 12-1, securing a team championship for the Yellowjackets. Tuttle claimed an automatic bid to the NJCAA National Wrestling Championships, and he was named the MCAC Outstanding Wrestler of the Year.
